Hand exercise and First aid for hands and nails.

Hand exercise

For supple fingers: Try piano playing to make your fingers supple. Rest the tips (the balls not the nail tips) lightly on a table. Then tap the little finger ten times, keeping all the other tips down. Repeat the same with each finger. Drum your fingers as though as you’re being impatient, then raise your hands above your head and keep them there for a minute or two.

For hand circulation: Clench each fist in turn and open and stretch the fingers, clench again, then throw fingers out vigorously and with strength. Repeat the same for several times.

First aid for hands and nails

Quick repair: In just a few hours, you can see results from hand care. Resolve, for a day at least, to keep your hands out of the water as far as possible and wear rubber gloves for all wet jobs.

Wipe not wash: Instead of washing your hands during the day, wipe them clean with a cleansing cream, or lotion and tissues, or paper towels.

Restoration: If your hands are at the rough and sore stage, then you’re caught up in that vicious circle where hands collect dirt more quickly, and so need extra washing, which makes them rougher still. The solution is to soak them for a few minutes in warm water, pat dry, and then apply a coat of petroleum jelly, rubbing well into cuticles too. Tissue off any excess jelly after a few minutes. Repeat the same for up to three times a day.

Putting up a barrier: It pays to wear a barrier cream for all jobs where gloves are not practical, including gardening. When handling soil, take the extra precaution of working some white soap under your Fingernails before you begin. This will prevent the soil from becoming ingrained underneath.

Lemon to the rescue: If your fingers are stained with nicotine or discolored, scrub them with a soapy nail brush and rub over with half a lemon.
