Earache: Always seek medical advice if earache lasts for more than a few hours or is severe. The cause may be as varied as inflammation of the middle ear, a buildup of wax or a boil. Don’t attempt a self-diagnosis.
Cleaning Ears: To clean your outer ear, use a flexible stick, the tip bound in cotton wool and dipped in soap suds or cleansing lotion. And to remove the cleanser, or to dry the ear, rewind fresh cotton wool around the tip of the stick ad clean gently. Do not poke it into your inner ear; otherwise, you will damage it.
Pressurization: During the flight, it’s quite usual to feel discomfort in your ears. As you fly higher, the pressure outside falls hence it pains. Suck a sweet or keep swallowing; anything which makes you open your mouth (e.g. yawning) and help equalize the outside and inside pressure.
Swimmers take note: If you swim a lot, especially underwater, always take care to shake the water out of your ears afterwards and to dry them carefully. It’s a good idea to protect your ears with wax plugs.
