Coconut Water Benefits.

As far as refreshing, healthy drinks go, coconut water has become my new found miracle. It’s loaded with minerals that help re-hydrate like sodium and potassium, as well as electrolytes and super-low glycemic sugars (although it is high on calories, the low glycemic sugars help it break down easier for those with blood-sugar issues). Beyond that, coconut water also has the added benefit of being very low in cholesterol and is a great source of calcium, magnesium, manganese, potassium and dietary fiber, Omega-6 fatty acids, among others.
Coconut Water is a perfect, all natural
sports water alternative. Don’t be afraid of consuming it if you are following
a healthy exercise routine, as the calories will be used immediately for energy
production and won’t end up in your liver or stored in your fat cells like
practically every other calorie-rich product you’ll find in the store. In fact,
many career athletes and those looking to lose weight regularily drink coconut
water for the increase in metabolism, and therefore more energy, without any
harmful effects or fat storage. Additionally, the beneficial goodness of the
water will remain and when the incredible taste is thrown in to the equation,
coconut water just can’t be beat!
One quick
warning, if you are following a low-sodium diet, I would
NOT suggest it be ingested to the volume you would regular drinking
water. Obviously, the best option is consuming fresh coconut water
straight out of the nut itself.
Apart from the nutritional variations, not
all coconut waters taste the same. This has to do with the variety and/or the
origin of the coconuts, as well as any additions to the product put in by the
bottling company, and, of course, how well stored and for how long they’ve been
on the shelf. Just as with any other natural food, choose companies that are
‘organic’ certified and preferably GMO-FREE (genetically modified organisms).
All in all, despite the ASA’s completely
baseless conspiracy to hide the healthiness of coconut oils and similar
products from you, there has never been any verifiable evidence as to ANY
harmful effects of the ingestion of coconut products. The variety and
effectiveness of their health benefits are, quite frankly, surprising, not to
mention being one of the most refreshing drinks to ever drop out of a tree! Enjoy!
