What is Green Tea? What are the health benefits of Green Tea?

What is Green Tea?

Green tea is one of the most well known types of tea on the market. This drink has been used in China and Japan for thousands of years. Like many teas, green tea is very well known for its health benefits. The tea comes in various kinds. You can get green tea extract, green tea leaves, green tea bags, or other varieties.

It comes from an Asia-native plant called Camellia sinesis. Some other teas are also derived form this plant, including black tea. Green tea is different not because of how it’s grown, but rather because of how it’s processed. Of most commercial teas, green tea is the least processed; the result is a more natural, preserved version of the tea.

After the green tea leaves are picked, they’re heated and steamed. After this they’re dried. That’s usually the extend of the processing, though some versions are processed a bit more. Most other teas, black teas in particular, are further processed and dried. In this process, oxidation is halted and slowed down. Green tea doesn’t go through this process, and it results in a more healthy, oxidized tea. Green tea is a lighter color and flavor.

Some people think that green tea has very strong, curing health benefits because of their strong antioxidants that boost the immune system. The American Cancer Society has promoted this tea. Some studies have hinted that this tea might help in fighting Alzheimer’s and weight loss. The tea is well know for it’s ability to help in weight loss.
